Chandigarh : In a major crackdown on corruption, the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SVACB), Rohtak, has arrested two individuals for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹1.5 lakh in connection with providing an electricity connection at the UHBVN office in Bhatgaon, Sonipat.
The accused have been identified as Rahul, a contractor acting as an intermediary, and Suraj, a Junior Engineer (JE) posted at the UHBVN office in Bhatgaon. Rahul was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of ₹1,50,000, while JE Suraj was also arrested during the operation following the revelation of his involvement in the case.
A case has been registered at the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau Police Station, Rohtak, under FIR No. 16 dated May 25, 2026, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
According to official information, the complainant, a government teacher, had applied for an electricity connection for a poultry farm established on his agricultural land and had already deposited the prescribed government fees. However, despite completing the required formalities, the electricity meter was not installed.
When the complainant approached JE Suraj regarding the issue, he was allegedly directed to contact contractor Rahul. The complainant alleged that Rahul demanded a bribe of ₹2 lakh for facilitating the electricity connection, sanctioning the load, laying the power line, and installing the new meter.
Following verification of the complaint, the Bureau constituted a raiding team and carried out a planned operation. During the raid, Rahul was apprehended while accepting ₹1.5 lakh as bribe money. Further investigation established the involvement of JE Suraj, leading to his arrest as well.
